Jerry was born in Ambridge, PA to Michael and Helen Parker on April 20, 1935. Jerry's childhood was spent in Ambridge where he graduated high school and then attended the University of Pittsburgh. Jerry met the love of his life, Shirley Bowers, when they were 19 and 18 respectively. They shared an interest in serving others through a career in medicine. They were married on September 7, 1957.
Jerry attended medical school at George Washington University, while Shirley worked as a registered nurse to support them. Upon graduation from medical school, Jerry enlisted in the US Army where he completed his residency in urology. During a decade in the Army, he and Shirley developed many lifelong friendships while stationed in several locations, including a year in Japan. In 1960, Jerry and Shirley welcomed their son Scott. In 1965, their daughter Lynn was born.
After 10 years as a physician in the Army, Jerry began serving the Monterey Peninsula community as a dedicated and compassionate urologist. A career he would enjoy for nearly 50 years. Jerry served on staff at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula for 46 years, and offered his leadership serving a term as Chief of Staff. In addition, he was a member of the Monterey County Medical Society for 44 years, where he also served as Chairman of the Medical Review Advisory Committee for 20 years, and would earn Physician of the Year recognition by his peers. Jerry was well respected and warmly regarded by hospital staff, colleagues and patients alike.
Well-known for his kindness, generosity, positivity, and great sense of humor, Jerry was always ready with a joke (or several) to share! Jerry was an avid enthusiast of many sports and had a mind for sports statistics. He enjoyed playing tennis for many years and had a lifelong passion playing golf. Jerry had the proud distinction of having hit four Holes in One; the most recent in 2023.
Jerry and Shirley enjoyed years of traveling together throughout the U.S. and abroad. Jerry was a “foodie” who enjoyed cooking as well as eating a variety of cuisines.
Throughout his extensive career and decades of service as a physician in the community as well as at church, Jerry developed many lifelong friendships. It was common for him to run into someone he knew whenever he went about his day on the Peninsula.
Above all, Jerry was devoted to his family and was selfless in offering his love and support. Jerry is survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 69 years, his son Scott, his daughter Lynn, son-in-law David, grandsons Hunter (Mackenzie) and Will, and great-grandson, Cal.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday October 19, 2026 at 10am at San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey, where Jerry served as an usher for 30 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to a charity of choice.
