Joan (Joanie) Ellen (Burnley) Smith-Webb, of Carmel, California passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2024 at the age of 79, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born in Oakland, CA on Christmas Day, Joanie was the youngest daughter of Thelma (Pearson) and George Burnley. After her parents divorced she moved with her mom to Millbrae, CA. She attended Mills High School where she starred as a majorette. Shortly after high school she met and married Gregory Smith and they had a daughter, Michelle. After their divorce, Joanie moved to San Mateo, CA and then Walnut Creek, CA.
She worked for Blackhawk Real Estate, and then become a successful sales representative for North American Title company before marrying the love of her life, Jack Webb, and moving to Carmel.
Joanie had a love for fashion, even traveling to France for the Paris fashion shows. She always loved reading the newest fashion magazines and shopping for the latest trends.
She and Jack belonged to Tehama Golf club where she loved to volunteer for the annual “Clint Tournament”. She was so caring and friendly that whether it was in the pro shop, at the gym, or at the restaurant she knew each Tehama staff member by name.
She loved all animals big and small, always having a dog by her side. Holding birthday parties for her beloved dog, Shiloh, writing a book about “Rambo the Wonder Dog”, or having Opus grace the page of the annual Humane Society calendar, animals were always dear to her heart.
She was always the life of the party and enjoyed opening her home to host her annual “Christmas Open House”, several wedding celebrations, and any other occasion where she could dress up and celebrate.
She loved to travel, visiting friends around the world. Having traveled throughout Europe and to Asia, it was Hawaii that held a special place in her heart. A special memory of Joanie’s was hosting a family vacation, last summer, to Kona Hawaii. There was nothing she enjoyed more than having her family all together.
She was always available with a listening ear, sound advice, and a warm hug and will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and strength.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Webb. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Smith-Napier (Jack) of Bandon OR, her sister, Diana Mendenhall, of Pleasanton, CA, her step-brother, Allen Scott, of Danville, CA, her half-brother, Mark Burnley, of San Francisco, CA, her niece, Laurie Fraser, of Lincoln, NE, her nephew Matt Mendenhall of Pleasanton, CA, her grandchildren, Gregory Smith-Napier, Trevor Smith-Napier and Matt Daly (Erin), and finally her two great grandchildren Taylor and Samantha Daly. A heartfelt thank you to Lane Lyoko for his unwavering loyalty and friendship which brought immense joy to Joanie’s life. The family wishes to thank her beloved caregivers who gave so much of their time and love to Joanie and Jack, Ermelinda (Emy) Pajimola, her husband Jeffrey and Yanira (Yani) Pereira.
Final arrangements are under the care of The Paul Mortuary in Pacific Grove, CA.
There will be a celebration of life at a later time.
