Jack was to born to Robert and Wanda Harpster in Orlando, Florida. As the son of an Air Force General, Jack traveled throughout his childhood, having lived in England, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Indiana and ultimately landing in California.
In 1962, Jack enrolled at Whittier College where he met Bette, his wife of 48 years. After service in the US Army, Jack went on to earn a MA in Psychology, a MA in Sociology and later his Ed.D in Education.
He believed deeply in education and promoting the welfare of others and devoted much of his life to both. After having worked as a school psychologist, Director of Special Education and the Vice President of Hartnell College, he started his own company, Human Services Consulting, aimed at helping nonprofit organizations. He sat on numerous boards and devoted endless hours to serving nonprofits in Monterey County.
He was a long-time member and elder at First Presbyterian Church of Monterey. He loved singing and writing music, specifically, he loved arranging vocal harmonies.
Jack is survived by his wife, Bette Harpster of Salinas, his son, Noah (and Robin) Harpster of Los Angeles, his daughter, Kathryn (and Luke) Floeter of San Diego and his grandchildren, Olive, Maggie, Charlie and Penny.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Sunday, September 11th, 2016 at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church of Monterey. 501 El Dorado Street, Monterey, CA 93940.
