John Julio Heugo

January 23, 1952 to July 29, 2023

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a beloved soul, John Heugo of Pacific Grove, CA, who passed away peacefully on July 29th, 2023 at the age of 71. John was born in Dos Palos, CA to Julio and Evelyn Heugo who preceded him in death. John was a part of the Portuguese community and was a graduate of Pacific Grove High School, class of 1970. John spent his younger years living in Fresno, Ca where he raised his sons and worked for Long’s Drugs.

John's life was a beautiful tapestry, interwoven with his passions and the love he shared with all who knew him. John had an insatiable love for cooking, mastering countless recipes and delighting everyone with his culinary creations. His kitchen was a haven of warmth and delicious aromas, where nothing was measured as he made memories with family and friends, one dish at a time.

In 2001 John relocated back to Pacific Grove and worked at the Carmel Ace Hardware. John was always seen as one of the most treasured members of the Carmel community, and his willingness to help all his customers was genuinely rewarding to him.


As a true outdoorsman, John found solace and joy in fishing. Whether casting his line at Courtright Lake or camping at Shaver Lake, he found peace in nature's embrace and cherished every catch as a triumph. John's appreciation for the finer things in life extended to his love for wine. He had an innate ability to pair any red with any meal, turning gatherings into celebrations filled with laughter and heartfelt toasts. Above all, John's heart belonged to his family and friends. He cherished the moments spent together, creating bonds that will endure beyond his physical presence. His warm smile and genuine kindness touched the lives of many, leaving a lifelong imprint on our souls.


As we say our goodbyes, let us celebrate the life of John Heugo—a man who cooked with passion, fished with joy, savored the pleasures of life, and loved his family and friends unconditionally. He will forever remain in our hearts as an inspiration to live life fully and embrace the simple joys that surround us.



John is survived by his sons Nicholas and Jonathan Heugo, Sister Michele Keisling (Ron) Niece; Daniele Jorn (Joshua), Nephews; Justin Keisling (Jackie), Tyler Keisling (Jenna), his Great Niece, Kennedy Jorn and Great Nephew; Rhett John Keisling.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Angela Merici Church, Lighthouse & 10th, Pacific Grove, CA 93950.
