John J King May 16,1930 – March 27,2021

John J. King, born in Watsonville, CA, to John S. King and Marian Enos. John was one of three children, Rosemary King, and William F. King of Carmel Valley. John grew up on Larkin St., also known as “spaghetti hill”. He graduated from Monterey High School, 1949. After graduation, he worked for the CA state division of Forestry and Salinas fire department before he was drafted into the U.S. Army where John was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After which, John started his career with Pacific Telephone Company. He met and married Eileen G. Rosselot, April 14, 1956 in Salinas, CA. John and Eileen started the laundromat business and John retired shortly after from the phone company. John was an avid outdoorsman, which included hunting, fishing, backpacking, skiing and his favorite, golf. He worked as a volunteer for the Bing Crosby tournament, later called the AT&T golf tournament, 1975-2021. One of his favorite pass times was taking road trips and playing cards (hearts and gin rummy) with his grandkids. John’s home was always open to family and friends. He loved to entertain and show off his beloved peninsula. John is survived by his wife Eileen; son, Kevin; daughter, Stephanie and her husband, Ken Cox, Colonel U.S. Army (Retired); grandson, Christopher and his wife, Natell and great-grandchildren, Elliot and Thomas; granddaughter, Lee Ann and her husband, Garrett Knight and great-granddaughter, Atticus, to arrive in 5 months and his brother, William (Bill) King and his wife, Judy King. John King was a great husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend to many – We will miss you, your smile, laughter, and big heart – you did so much for so many and will be missed every day! A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. John’s family suggests memorial donations in his memory be made to the Camaldolese Benedictine Monks, 6275 CA-1, Big Sur, CA, 93920. John King was great gentleman. It was a pleasure to volunteer with John for forty-years at the Pebble Beach AT&T Pro-Am. John was always there rain or shine! The enjoyment of sharing a libation and a cheer with John and his wife at their after the tournament will always be remembered. He will be greatly missed!

I met John and Eileen through his brother Bill and wife Judi. I always felt like we had known each other for years, rather than just a short time. I remember him helping at the Crab Feed and the Christmas dinner at the Fairgrounds. He will be missed by many. My heartfelt condolences to Eileen and his family.

We were blessed to have known Ponch and will always remember him and his humorous wit! Knowing he was surrounded by family when he left is a wonderful send off to man who lived his life so well and was so loved! Luvu all and God bless....
