John James Meagher was born September 23, 1947 in Carmel, California. He grew up in Pacific Grove and lived his whole life there before dying unexpectedly at his home on June 22, 2022. He was a devoted caregiver of his parents and sister, and a collector of more treasures than he knew what to do with.
John attended St. Angela's Elementary School, attended a year at Pacific Grove Junior High and then graduated 8th grade from St. Angela's. After that, he attended Junipero High School in Monterey for three years. He graduated from Pacific Grove High School, Class of 1965, then attended Monterey Peninsula College.
John worked for decades as a delivery driver, notably for the Monterey Herald, the San Francisco Chronicle, and also for Domino's Pizza, until his parents asked him to become their care-giver in the mid-nineties.
John is predeceased by his parents, Jim and Carmen (Rubio) Meagher and his brothers, Karl Meagher and Frederic Meagher and his brother-in-law, Elery Samuel Oxford. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Meagher Oxford, his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Caroline Meagher and sister-in-law, Jesstine Meagher. He is also survived by his nieces, Suzanna Oxford, Christine Meagher, and Amy Wildt, and his nephews, Joseph Karl Meagher, Elery James Oxford and Samuel Frederick Oxford. He will be missed by his family and friends.
A memorial for John will be held at The Paul Mortuary in Pacific Grove, CA on Saturday, August 6th at 11:00 A.M., followed by a reception. His ashes will be interred at San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey, CA on Monday, August 8th at 11:00 A.M.
