Whatever it was, Julie was up for it! A trip, a concert, a party, a play, a bonfire with friends—Julie embraced life with curiosity, enthusiasm, and an adventurous spirit that made even the ordinary feel extraordinary.
But as much as Julie loved adventure, the most extraordinary thing about her was the way she loved the people in her life.
Her husband, Barry, who preceded her in death, was the love of her life, her rock, and her partner in adventure. Though their years together were far too short, she carried his love with her for the rest of her life.
Being a mother was among Julie’s greatest joys. Loving, empathetic, and endlessly supportive, she was the kind of mom who listened without judgment, helped you navigate life’s hardest moments, and would drop everything to be there when you needed her.
Becoming Nana Juju to Caden and Cameron brought her immeasurable happiness. She embraced being their grandmother with the same boundless love and enthusiasm she brought to everything in life.
Julie was also a much-loved sister, playing many roles over the years—from wingman to her younger brother at a bar, to mentor for her younger sister, and always finding a way to keep her older brother on his toes.
That same warmth, curiosity, and playful spirit carried into every corner of Julie’s life. She loved bringing people together, whether over a wonderful meal, a lively political debate, or the next great adventure. Theatrical in her youth and blessed with a beautiful singing voice, she was also persuasive enough to find herself on the bridge of a top-secret submarine sampling the captain’s pickled pig’s feet! From Mardi Gras in New Orleans to an African safari or cruising the Mediterranean, Julie was always ready for whatever came next.
She brought that same determination to her education, earning a bachelor’s degree from Hood College and two master’s degrees. She went on to dedicate decades of her life to serving her country through her work in the civil service. Her career took her from working as a naval archivist to consulting with and training military personnel and organizations throughout the United States and abroad.
A wonderful hostess, talented cook, enthusiastic travel companion, avid reader, exceptinal writer and willing co-conspirator, Julie loved art, music, history, and, most of all, time spent with the people she loved.
While there are countless stories to tell about the remarkable life Julie lived, perhaps the most meaningful ones are about the way she made people feel—welcomed, understood, and deeply loved.
Julie lived fully, loved generously, and will be missed beyond words.
