Kathy Stadtlander died peacefully on January 19, 2019 at the age of 71 after a brief illness.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Katherine Stadtlander, and her siblings, Brian Swette (Kelly), Rob Swette (Teri) and Mary Walker (Chuck). She is also survived by a countless number of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Muriel Swette, her sister, Sharon Walko (Bruce) and her brother, Glen Swette.
Kathy was born on October 3, 1947 in New Jersey to Glen and Muriel. She graduated from Kent State in 1968 with a teaching degree. After moving to California, she earned her Master’s Degree from Pepperdine University. Kathy was a fabulous teacher in the Long Beach School District and earned recognition for her care and patience with her students. Her classrooms often received awards for being outstanding in the District.
In 1984, Kathy welcomed her daughter, Katherine, into the world and being a mother became her greatest joy. Her daughter, family and many friends remember her as a proud and devoted Mom. Kathy retired in Carmel to be closer to her brother, Brian (Kelly), and his family. She was active in her many nieces’ and nephews’ lives – tutoring, cheering at sporting events and being a supportive and loving presence. Even after retirement, Kathy continued her dedication to young students as a substitute teacher and volunteer tutor in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District.
Kathy will be remembered for her unending love for her daughter, great sense of humor, natural beauty and warmth, passion for learning and politics, compassion for those struggling and love for her family.
