Kira Alexandra Elischer, born February 28, 1972 in Monterey, California to parents Sheila Farrelly Elischer and Alexander Roland Elischer (deceased), died on November 14, 2018 at the age of 46. Kira was well loved by many different circles of friends, many who considered her to be family, from her time spent growing up on the Monterey Peninsula, and college in Santa Barbara where she studied interior design, to San Francisco where she practiced interior design, and Oakland where she ran her own business, The Retreat House, where she was a top aesthetician, Jamaica and Anguila where she frequently visited, and back to the Monterey Peninsula when she became a mom and started a new chapter of life with a wonderful circle of mom friends.
She had an eye for beauty which translated into all parts of her life, her home, her photography, her wardrobe, her art, her taste in music, her viewpoint, and her relationships. Kira was an unusually generous, loyal, open, dynamic, intensely passionate soul who gave her friends and loved ones her entire heart, spirit, and embrace. Kira also had a deep connection to plants and made the Garden of Eden grow wherever she threw a seed. Her love for the Caribbean was so strong that she had a nickname, Caribbean Kiki, and you can feel the Caribbean and the tropics in her home and gardens. She was an excellent cook, hostess, and life of the party and those who got to partake in her gatherings were lucky indeed.
However, her greatest gift and love was her son, Quincy. Quincy was her dream come true and the last years of her life were dedicated almost solely to ensuring that he would always be taken care of. It was very important to her to spread awareness about ovarian cancer, and how difficult it is to get an early diagnosis. More funding is needed to develop tests for early detection, which would save many lives.
Kira is survived by Fitz Cotterell and their 7 year old son Quincy Alexander Elischer-Cotterell, mother Sheila Elischer, brother Cassady and his wife Christina, Uncle Victor and wife Arlene, cousin Tammy, cousin Paul and wife Alishia, Aunt Vera, cousin Vera Alexandra, Aunt Alaine, Aunt Diedre, and friends too numerous to name. She is preceded in death by her father Alexander.
Kira will be greatly missed by many who loved her dearly. Donations can be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition or Quincy's fundraiser Quincy's Fundraiser.
