Dec. 26, 1949 - June 6, 2025
Laura Lockett, 75, passed away on June 6, 2025, after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was raised in Virginia. After her father’s unexpected death in 1962, Laura and her brother moved with their mother to Mexico City. She attended the American School Foundation there and graduated in 1968. She attended college in Mexico City for two years before being offered the trip of a lifetime, an around-the-world cruise for one semester through the World Campus Afloat. Upon returning to the United States, she worked in Newport Beach in the hotel industry where she met her husband, Ronald Horner.
Laura moved to the Monterey Peninsula with her husband and worked as a travel agent for more than 50 years, ending her career as a beloved member of the team at Pacific Grove Travel for more than 23 years. She was an excellent travel consultant where her clients always came first.
Later in life, Laura became interested in painting watercolors and it became her passion. Here’s what she said on her website: “I paint watercolors exclusively and primarily on location in plein air. In the early ’90s I studied with Anita DeCarlo and that started my lifelong quest to continue learning the process. Since then, I’ve had the privilege to study with several Master Watercolorists: Frank Eber, Andy Evansen, Tom Fong, Charles Reid and Mary Whyte. My paintings have been on exhibit in various locations around the Monterey Peninsula in solo and group juried shows with awards. I have enjoyed participating in plein air events in Monterey and Carmel Valley.”
Laura was predeceased by her mother and father, Marjorie and Ralph Lockett, and her brother, Gordon Lockett. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ron.
No services are planned. Donations in Laura’s memory may be made to AFRP or Golden Oldies Cat Rescue.
