After defying his age with nearly eight decades of golf, LeRoy "Poppie" Frame passed away on July 1st, at the age of 93. LeRoy was born in Modesto, CA and lived in Patterson before his family moved to Pacific Grove when he was 12, where LeRoy would graduate high school. In 1947 he attended UC Berkeley, and met the love of his life, Kathryn - who he married in 1950. After finishing his degrees in chemistry and food technologies, they settled in Salinas, where they raised two children. LeRoy spent his career in the food industry, including 21 years as owner-operator of a produce brokerage business. The Frame family would later move to Toro Park, where LeRoy lived for the next 50 years.
In addition to playing the piano (which he learned from his mother), gardening, Shih-tzu dogs, and Cal Bears football - LeRoy's passion in life was golf. He had a regular weekly group of high school friends that played together for decades after they had graduated. LeRoy fondly remembered winning the Club Championship at Salinas Golf CC in 1965. He later became a member of Corral de Tierra for 45 years. Corral recently featured LeRoy in a club newsletter after his 10th hole-in-one. LeRoy successfully passed on his lifetime affinity for golf to his son and grandsons.
LeRoy was beloved by his family as an exemplary kind man and bedrock of support, and respected by his friends and acquaintances as a true gentleman.
Surviving LeRoy is his daughter, Karen Pampe of Austin, four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by Kathryn, his wife of 55 years, and his son, Bill Frame.
