Margaret (Peggy) Catherine D’Arcy Gerba passed away on Monday, January 30. She was born April 9, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois, living there until her marriage to Alex Gerba, Jr. in November 1959. She then moved to the Monterey Peninsula with Alex as he began his career at the Naval Postgraduate School.
Peg was a member of St. Angela Merici Church, an Associate of the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, WI and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Angela.
Peg was predeceased by her husband in July 2005; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Geraldine Darcy and her sister-in-law, Anne Lubienecki. Peg and Alex had five children who survive her; Julie (J.R.) Akin of Salinas, Mary Kay (Dennis) Gilbert of McDonough, Georgia, Alex M. (Debbie Canedo) Gerba of Indio, Nancy (Kelly) Sorensen of Pacific Grove and Margaret K. Gerba (Eric Lomboy) of Salinas. She is also survived by her brother, Patrick (Suzanne) Darcy of Columbia, MO, twelve beloved grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at The Paul Mortuary Chapel on Monday, February 13 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM with recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Angela Merici Church on Wednesday, February 15 at 10:30.
