Mark Richard Hermanson passed away at his home in Carmel on August 10, 2022, after a nearly-three year courageous battle with cancer. He was 59. Mark will be remembered for his great sense of humor, and his funny stories and jokes. He was born in Oakland on May 13, 1963, to his parents, Sidney and Elsie Hermanson, both of whom preceded him in death.
Mark worked in the service industry, and gained many close relationships amongst the local community while bartending and waiting tables at high-end establishments including Edgar's at Quail Lodge and The Fish Hopper on Cannery Row.
Mark was one-of-a-kind, with his infectious smile and engaging stories. He was a life-long devoted Oakland Raiders fan. It was uncanny how Mark could recite almost any line from a movie he had seen. He was also a voracious reader, and an avid traveler, and shared great memories about his many adventures in different countries around the world, including Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain.
Mark is survived by his son, Holden Douglas; his three brothers, Bob (Margie) of Sparks, Nevada, Gary (Cindy) of Alameda, Chuck (Dorian) of Pleasanton; many nieces and nephews, as well as other family members.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 20th, at Church of the Wayfarer, Lincoln Street and Seventh Avenue in downtown Carmel, followed by a reception at The Fish Hopper Restaurant on Cannery Row in Monterey from 11 a.m. to noon.
We wish to thank Melinda Douglas for her selfless and compassionate care for Mark during his last weeks of life. We would also like to thank the wonderful, caring staff of Hospice of the Central Coast, who also helped care for Mark.
We have extended Mark's Go Fune Me page to Mark's son, Holden, in hopes of raising funds to help support him with his loss. Any donations would be extremely appreciated.
