She was born in Sacramento, California, on May 8th, 1947, to Herman and Carol Morris, and raised by her parents in Lodi, California, where Maureen often found herself photographed for the local newspaper as a child, thanks to her mother’s involvement with a variety of community events.
After graduating from Lodi Union High School in 1965, Maureen went on to attend Delta College in Stockton, where she met her future husband, Frank Abbott, while in the music department. They later eloped to Idaho to marry on August 16, 1966, after Frank completed basic training when drafted into the military for the Vietnam war.
Maureen accompanied Frank to his subsequent military assignment in Germany, where she worked as a teaching assistant in the military elementary school while creating many memories as a married couple—including adopting her most favorite pet, a parakeet named Sammy.
Maureen returned to California with Frank in May of 1969, after which she achieved an Associate in Science degree at Humphreys College in 1970. She then proceeded to secure a number of secretarial jobs, first for Alex Spanos, and later for various offices with the State of California, taking a break only from 1985 to 1992 to be a full-time mother to their son, Matthew, who was born on March 10, 1980.
Maureen’s final Executive Secretarial position with the Contractor’s State License Board included many opportunities to travel, which she and Frank greatly enjoyed together.
Upon retiring in 2009, Maureen and Frank moved to Seaside, California, fulfilling their dream to live in the Monterey area since falling in love with the area during Frank’s time at Ford Ord.
In Maureen’s retirement years, she continued to enjoy travelling often with Frank, also taking along Matthew and his wife, Amy, when possible. When not travelling, Maureen enjoyed researching her ancestry, assisting Matthew with church work, and creating meaningful memories by decorating her home to celebrate birthdays and holidays.
Maureen is survived by her husband, Frank, and son, Matthew, who have been impacted forever by her love and life.
A Memorial Service was held with Seaside Community Church on Sunday, June 30th at 2pm. The online version is available for viewing at this link: https://youtu.be/NxCWYxGVn0Q
