Mildred “Millie” Dudley Daniel passed away peacefully at home on October 27th. She was born to Rawlins and Mildred Tileston in Santa Monica, California. She lived there until graduating from Santa Monica City College.
Millie was a very popular and well-liked student, excelled in tennis and loved working in the library.
During her high school years, she met the love of her life, Bill Daniel, while he was attending USC in L.A. for the Navy. They were married July 11, 1950. Millie was blessed to be a homemaker and a dedicated wife throughout Bill’s military career. Together they raised two children, Cynthia and Wayne, traveled overseas to Guam and had several tours of duty in Monterey, San Diego and Washington D.C.
She and Bill were inseparable and complimented each other throughout their marriage. Following Bill’s retirement from the Navy in 1974, they returned to Carmel to a home purchased during a previous tour of duty at the Naval Postgraduate School. Together they restored the interior of this historic home known as the Alice and Grace McGowan House which was built in 1906. Millie loved this home and brought her own personal touches to it.
They both enjoyed traveling to European countries and the UK as well as visiting friends and family all over the United States including Bill’s extended family residing in Oklahoma.
They were especially fond of visits to Idaho where their granddaughters, Christine and Angel and great-grandchildren, Tristan and Isabella lived. Over the years, they visited daughter Cynthia wherever she was living at the time. Their son, Wayne, and Millie’s parents and sister resided in the Carmel area.
Their membership at the Community Church of the Monterey Peninsula began in 1975. Devoted to the church, Bill and Millie were deeply involved with it’s activities, responsibilities and events for almost 50 years. Always a gracious and humorous lady, Millie was an integral part of the church and considered it her second family.
Millie was a gracious and caring person. She was dearly loved by all her family and friends.
