Norm helped me learn the ropes at the dog wash on my first day of my first ever job. He always asked about school, and helped me figure things out when I needed extra guidance. He was very generous in his praise even when I did the minimum, always made me smile, worked incredibly hard, was very positive, and spoke of his family with much love!

His 5 grandkids were his pride and joy. And, they could always look forward to a spray of whipped cream into their mouths as they walked in the door at Papa and Heather’s house!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you constantly,  especially tomorrow as you say a final farewell to your beloved Norm.  May he rest knowing that he was loved and cared for by you his adoring, wonderful,  wife of 20 years.  You are a blessing and a rare gift sweet Heather!

Dear Heather and Family,
     I share your sadness over Norm's passing.  What a gentle, kind, friendly, open-hearted man he was.  He loved bringing people together and building a community.  His smile lit up a conversation, and his laugh was contagious.  He will be missed by so many.  I am also so grateful for the years of service he gave to us at Forest Grove.  Wishing you peaceful hearts and memories to bring you happiness.

Norm was incredibly generous and kind, to everyone, and worked very hard for decades to keep the HOA in good order. We were very, very lucky to have his help. We are are all at a loss without him, and will miss him every day. I hope his family is as much at peace as possible.

My dad was happiest when he was with people  he loved-friends, family, co-workers. 

Oh, and Spotty- we ALL know she was #1!! 

Most of all, he was such a proud Papa. This was so evident his last couple of weeks in ICU and at home, when his 5 adoring grands surrounded him with such care and compassion. So glad he was able to move on knowing he was so loved. 

The grands will continue to make him proud-carving their paths in work and school. And, I’ll continue to keep up with my grandFURbaby quota as well, because I know he wouldn’t want it any other way. 

 I imagine  he’s got a leash in one hand and a can of whip cream in another, watching a Giant’s game with his brother in the sky…

Hello, this is Jake (sometimes Justin) smith. The memories that I have had of norm were not plentiful but always kind and happy. He treated my family with such kindness that I always  found admirable. He will be missed dearly. Much love norm!

Norman, has left so many wonderful memories behind and to be a part of those memories is a privilege. I enjoyed our time and conversations tremendously, was always something that I looked forward to. My brother in law, you will be missed and never forgotten.

Norm always had a warm smile on his face. The room seemed to light up when ever he would walk in. Such a kind and gentle soul. My love and prayers are with you always.

I was so heartbroken when I heard of Norm’s passing. I had the privilege of working with him at the Sand City Target. He was 1 of the best Store Managers. He cared about each & every Team Members. And worked along side each 1. He was 1 in a million.
After he left, I would see him shopping or at Embassy Suites. Always gave 💯 to whatever adventure he was committed to.

Norm RIP

Normie, my brother in law , made everyone around him smile with his positive attitude. He always found a way to look on the bright side of things regardless of the circumstances.  I have so many wonderful memories walking in the forest together with our dogs, making food and watching the football game, drinking wine together and telling jokes, walking on candy cane lane together with Olivia  every Christmas.  My heart is broken.  I will never stop missing and loving you Normie!

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Norm almost as long as Heather has. I remember going to visit them in Monterey many times. Norm was always so enjoyable to be around, he would laugh with Heather and I and tell us funny stories.  He was always so kind and caring to me.  I was able to spend a weekend on the boat with them and he was such a gracious host and always made me feel welcome. I loved watching his eyes twinkle when he laughed!  What an amazing human, I’m so blessed to have gotten the chance to know him.

Norm gave me my first job at the Sand City Target in 1998. I remember being surprised by him very early on because he was out on the salesfloor helping to restock late in the night. Even with very little working experience, I knew he was unique! When he left the Sand City store, ALL of the team members were heartbroken. Great leadership is rare, and Norm was absolutely the best.

I ended up working for him again when he went to the gift shop at the Embassy. How much I treasured that time with him! From Norm, I learned so much. In my current job at the library, I still find myself softly thinking in almost any situation, "What would Norm do?" 

The way he led with kindness and compassion and the way he made everyone who worked for him feel special and important will be part of his legacy.

We who live at Forest Grove were so fortunate to have Norm work tirelessly on the board. He was kind, hard working, and dedicated to making this a wonderful and safe place for all who live here. It was such fun to see smiling Norm out with his cat and dog. May his family be blessed with comfort and peace.

There will never be another one like Norm. We will miss him dearly. Our sympathies to his family, and beloved pets.
