Patti Jo (PJ) Velten passed away Thursday afternoon, January 27, 2022 at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula at age 71. Patti was born in Indiana to Gerald and LaVonne Cook. Patti graduated from Centerville High School in Ohio and then went on to graduate from Sinclair Community College. After college, she married Lee Velten and became an Army Officer’s wife. Patti traveled with Lee through Europe and across the United States at various duty stations. Patti’s last and final duty station was Fort Ord, CA. She fell in love with the Monterey Peninsula and decided to settle here. While married, she started her long career in the banking field. Patti retired from banking leaving Washington Mutual around 2005. Patti’s greatest joy was water skiing with friends and family. Patti also enjoyed sewing, macramé, the Golden State Warrriors, the SF Giants and the SF 49’ers. Patti’s passion was the American Legion Auxiliary Monterey Peninsula Unit 41 which she restored to life as President in 2020. An accomplishment of which many were very proud. Patti is predeceased by her parents, Gerald and LaVonne Cook and her brother, James Cook. Patti is survived by her brother, David Cook, her niece, Tamila “Tammi” Cook Koverman and her partner of 42 years, Michael Forbes.
