As a young woman, Pearl was a fish packer at various canneries on Cannery Row during the heyday of sardine fishing off Monterey. She then was a waitress at Neill DeVaughn’s and York Restaurant, both on Cannery Row, for over twenty years.
Pearl loved dancing of all styles from ballroom to country-western and actively participated in the local Arthur Murray Dance Studio. She enjoyed spending time with friends at the Schulte Senior Center in Monterey and Oldemeyer Center in Seaside. She was also a skilled crocheter.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, in 1965 and her son, John, in 2015. One of fifteen children, she is survived by two sisters, Fannie Wong and Brenda Foey and many nieces and nephews.
Private burial has taken place at Monterey City Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Pearl’s name are suggested to Hospice of the Central Coast, 2 Upper Ragsdale Dr., Ste. D-120, Monterey, 93940 or Disabled American Veterans Chapter 85, PO Box 1385, Seaside, 93955 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
