Peter was born in Pacific Grove, California, on September 1, 1939. He grew up in Old Monterey and attended San Carlos School, K-12. His father, Ralph Lavin, was a fisherman at the wharf, and his mother, Evelyn Lavin(Rosasco) worked in the laundry business.
Peter had a life full of adventure, doing what he loved most-being an international/commercial pilot. He got his start as a pilot for Air America, during the Vietnam War. Through his work, Peter was fortunate to see the world and lived in many places....Japan, Laos, Iran, Tunis, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Brussels, and many more....
A few of the things Peter loved: traveling, playing golf, spending time with his grandchildren and friends-including his life long friend Mrs. Lyon and her family, watching the 49ers, walking to Lover's Point, listening to music and humming off key.
Peter is survived by his four children: Peter Lavin Jr, Ann Bevins(Jack Dempsey), Carol Lavin(Dan Ripke), and Sharon Lavin(Arturo Quilluya Taco): grandchildren; Nicholas Bevins(Liz Bevins), Daniel Robbins(Meghan Robbins), Sophia Ripke, Rafael Quilluya Lavin, and Marion Quilluya Lavin: great-grandchildren; Madeleine Bevins and Amelie Bevins. Preceded in death by his granddaughter Amanda Bevins.
A funeral mass for Peter will be held Monday, December 19, 2022, at 10:00 AM at San Carlos Cathedral, 500 Church Street, Monterey, California 93940. Following the funeral mass will be a committal service at San Carlos Cemetery, 792 Fremont Street, Monterey, California 93940.
