Knowing Phyllis and sharing walks with her has been one of the nicest pleasures of my life. Because I was new to the west coast, she taught me a lot about the animals and plants that are found in our Monterey Bay region.

Phyllis was interested in the natural world - we shared a liking for the Black Oystercatchers, pelicans flying, whale spouts, harbor seals and the many moods of the bay that we saw on our walks.

Phyllis was smart, funny, talented and genuine. She had a ready smile and a kind word for everyone. I will think of her whenever I walk on the rec trail - and I will miss her.

Phyllis and I shared walks along the bay for 22 years. She was always an inspiration. I feel very lucky that she was a part of my life.

I'm sorry to say I did not know Phyllis. I met her only once at last year's Christmas craft fair where she was selling some of her paintings. They were all so charming I had a hard time deciding which ones to purchase. She had such a gift for conveying mood in her watercolors. So many of them touched my heart. Such a talented artist, I'm sure she will be greatly missed. Cherish her memory and art.
