Phyllis M. Oliver, a Pebble Beach resident, died peacefully, April 23rd, with her loving family at her side. Phyllis lived a long and full life. She was an avid golfer and loved to play bridge. Phyllis was born in Corning, CA to John and Helen McCarthy on March 11th. They moved to Watsonville where Phyllis’s brother, John L Jr., was born in 1931. John preceded her in death. Phyllis graduated from Watsonville High School, where she met her husband, Richard A. Woodard. They went on to move to Salinas and had 2 children, Susan and Richard Jr. Richard Jr. preceded his mother in death in 1974. As did her husband Richard Sr., in 1975.
Later in life, Phyllis met and married Dr. Samuel H Oliver. Both Active members at Monterey Peninsula Country Club and resided in Pebble Beach. They enjoyed many rounds of golf with friends and time spent at their home in Lake Almanor, CA. They enjoyed traveling and time spent with their families. Including Sam’s daughter JoAnne Minnick (Boise, Idaho) and son, Terry Oliver (Southern Shores, NC), who preceded Sam in death. Phyllis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a dear friend, who enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She was an active participant in St. Mary’s Church; she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed working at the The American Cancer Society store, “Yellow Brick Road”. Where Phyllis found the greatest joy was being an active participant with her grandchildren and great grand children. Phyllis took great pride in looking impeccable. Always dressed beautifully with a smile and a positive cheerful attitude.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Silacci, granddaughters, Melissa Martella (David) and Lucinda Silacci (Jim Giancola) and grandson Kevin Silacci (Carolyn). Great grand children Ki (19) and Blake (16) Martella. Ethan (11) and Evan (8) Silacci.
Phyllis’s family would like to thank the wonderful private care givers and the wonderful staff at Park Lane for their loving care.
A celebration of life will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, April 29th at St Mary’s by the Sea. 146 12th St Pacific Grove.
