Richard William Darby

Richard William “Rick” Darby, 63, of Carmel, California, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025. Born on August 12, 1961, Rick was the beloved son of Nancy Westcott and the late William Darby. He was preceded in death by his sister, Trina Lacey.

Rick proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a sonar tech on a submarine, where he was honorably discharged. His time in the service was marked by dedication, discipline, and a quiet strength that would carry through his life.

A devoted father, Rick leaves behind his children Grace Miller (Justin), Kyle Darby, Amanda Darby, and Susan Darby (Steve), as well as his cherished grandchildren Austin, Peyton, Emma, Elliott, Chance, and Luke. He is also survived by his nephew, Corey Lacy, and a loving extended family.

Rick was known for his love of old sci-fi movies, his passion for reading, and his appreciation for classic rock music. He especially enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren in Florida, making treasured memories during each trip. At home in Carmel, one of his favorite places to be was sitting by the fire in the courtyard, relaxing and taking in the quiet moments. Those who knew him will remember his kind heart, and the way he always made time for the people he loved.

Rick’s greatest joy came from his family, and his legacy will live on in the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the love he shared.
