Pacific Grove ~ Robert “Bob” Quinn, a former Pacific Grove Mayor and Councilperson, passed away on June 9. Born in Providence, Rhode Island and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Bob served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War participating in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir known as the “Frozen Chosin.” He retired from a thirty-seven year career in mortgage lending including being head of the loan department for Monterey Savings.
Bob was a past president of the Pacheco Club as well as a former member of the Jaycees, Kiwanis and past president of the Rotary Club of Monterey. He was an extremely active public servant including being the first interim Chairman of the California Coastal Commission when it was first established. He served originally on the Pacific Grove Council from 1967 - 1971 followed by six years as mayor. He was later reappointed to the city council to finish the term on a vacated council seat. In 1998 he served as Foreman of the Monterey County Grand Jury. Bob was on the Board of Trustees for Forest Hill Manor and was a member of the Monterey County Fair Board from 1985 – 1997. Additionally, he was a multi-gallon blood donor and was the first participant in Community Hospital’s leukapheresis white blood cell donation program.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma; his children, Shawn P. (Lilia) of Corral de Tierra and Susan E. Juarez of Stockton; his sister, Elizabeth A. Bane of Indianapolis; brother, James Quinn of Providence, Rhode Island; grandchildren, Joshua Quinn and Moises and Selena Juarez and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John and William.
Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Pacific Grove on Sunday June 23 at 1:30 PM. Memorial contributions are suggested to the donor’s favorite charity.
