Sammy H. Roman of East Garrison, CA passed away on November 5th, 2017 at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after a lengthy illness.
Sammy was born in Minia, Egypt Oct. 11, 1943. He graduated from the University of Minia with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and went on for special engineering studies in Germany. He worked for Demag, a German Company operating in Frankfort, Germany, for 20 years. He spoke German fluently in addition to English and his native language Arabic.
He immigrated to the United States in 1998 and worked for nearly 16 years as an Assistant Professor at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center at the Presidio of Monterey. In addition, he served as a team leader for several years.
Although he had an easy-going nature, he worked tirelessly for the benefit of his students with whom he had great professional relation. In recent years, he endured multiple health problems. He met those challenges with courage and fortitude; always looking forward to the time he could return to the work he loved. His physician used to say; Sammy is made out of steel.
Sammy had a large group of colleagues and friends from a wide spectrum of all walks of life.
He will always be remembered by family and friends for his warm smile, his kindness, and gentle personality. He put people at ease with his humor and gracious hospitality.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne, his son Emmanuel, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by many people.
His family said, "We will remember Sammy as a gift entrusted to us for a period of time. God, the original owner of the gift reclaimed it. We feel the pain and sadness, but we know he is in the presence of Jesus in heaven."
