Monterey-Sarah Andrews, 86 passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. Sarah was born in Nokomis, Illinois, the eldest child of Samuel and Elsie Taylor. At an early age her family moved to Huckleberry Hill in New Monterey, and she lived in the same neighborhood for over 70 years. Sarah married Arthur A. Andrews in 1942, and had 6 children.
During WWII, Sarah worked in the canneries of Monterey, after raising her children she worked at CHOMP as a baker and kitchen aide. After retiring from CHOMP she enjoyed bingo, traveling with the Monterey Golden 55 Seniors, and socializing with her friends.
She is survived by her children: Daughters, Dianna (Ray) Hattori; Elizabeth Williams. Sons: Danny (Carol) Andrews; David Andres, and Jefferey Andrews. She is also survived by grandchildren: Wayne Andrews, Leesa Sanchez, Jordan Andrews, Erika Andrews, Melissa Andrews, Matthew Andrews, Corey Andrews, Ryan Williams, Liana Williams, and two great-grandchildren: Abigail Montez and Julia Meyerott. Also surviving, are her sister Kathy Shaw, sister-in-law Marge Taylor and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Arthur Andrews Sr. and eldest son, Arthur (Butch) Andrews Jr.
We thank Dr. Gary Grant and his staff for their long time care of our Mother, and to the Ave Maria Convalescent Hospital for making her last weeks comfortable. In addition, we give heartfelt gratitude to Leslie Ocal who took loving homecare of our Mother for the past three years.
Services for Sarah will be held at Little Chapel by the Sea in El Carmelo Pacific Grove Cemetery on Thursday, November 15th at 11:00 in the morning with graveside burial immediately afterward. Paul’s Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Contributions in Sarah’s name may be made to the American Heart Association.
