She was born in Ireland to John and Bridget Parrott and four siblings, Teddy, George, Claire and Joan. She attended an all-girls catholic school and at the age of 16 moved to England to take a job as a secretary where she met and married her first love, Terrence A. Wright, a Sergeant in the British Royal Airforce. They moved to California with three little ones to live out the American dream and with their devout love for family she gave birth to four more beautiful children. As though her plate wasn’t full enough raising her own, she welcomed into her home our many childhood friends as though they were part of our family. To this day we don’t understand how she was able to put home cooked meals on the table, pack our school lunches, sew and knit our clothing, help us with homework, read a million books to us and keep us all in line as she worked as a Records Technician for the City of Seaside Police Department for 15 of those years.
If we were to describe her favorite past times, in no particular order, she loved holiday cooking and baking, knitting and sewing, crossword puzzles, sudoku, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and a good cup of afternoon tea. With incredible intellect and love for reading, libraries couldn’t supply books fast enough and don’t even think of interrupting her cup of morning coffee, as she completed the daily morning crossword puzzle before her last sip. Never a big traveler, her idea of a family excursions were her rare and coveted weekend trips to her favorite casino, Chumash.
She will always and forever hold a special place in our hearts and be remembered fondly for her quick wit, sense of humor, nurturing nature and unconditional love. There’s a wonderful song called “When Irish Eyes are Smiling” that reminds us the many moments of pleasure gazing into her big beautiful blue eyes for sound advice, her ability to listen, her strong sense of intuition, integrity and truth. As sure as the sun rises and sets, her pride of her Irish heritage and customs carried out from generations past, shines and touches us all dearly.
It was a true gift and honor to be in her presence, love and care for her as she spent the last 6 months in her family home. We want to send out a special thanks to hospice and her stellar nurses Matt and Laura, who we not only learned from and leaned on, but we came to know them as part of our family. We all witnessed the “Spirit of the Fighting Irish” in her shining moments of glory, all the way to the end with her over the top positivity and grace.
Peacefully she took her last breath after a magical evening with family and a bagpiper that played “Amazing Grace” outside her bedroom window during sunset.
She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Peter Wright, her first husband Terrence A. Wright and her oldest daughter Carole Wright-Street and her second husband John Moon.
Carrying on her spirit and legacy are her children: Terry Wright (wife Rhonda), Theresa Wright-Brulc, Robert Wright (wife Mary), Susan Wright, Kathleen Wright-Battaglia (husband John); her grandchildren Colin, Ben, Taylor, Angel, Rob, James, Bridget, Andrea, Michael, Christie, Kaleigh, Terrence, Matthew, Gavin and her precious great grandchild Reagan (who she like to call munchkin), and sister Joan Tersol.
In honor of her memory, sing and dance more, give lots of love, kisses and hugs, speak your truth, follow your intuitions and believe in miracles.
Services will be held at the City of Monterey Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2018, followed by a celebration of her life at Spanish Bay 11:00 a.m.
