Our loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully with family by his side on August 24, 2016 due to complications from lung cancer. Born in Honeyville, UT, Tak was one of 12 children born to Yoshitaro and Ayame Yokota. His family was living in Reedley, CA when WWII broke out, forcing them to a relocation camp in Poston, AZ where he graduated from high school. Later, Tak served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War, then moved to the Monterey Peninsula where he met and married his wife and had a son. Tak worked in the beverage industry for over 35 years until retiring, then began a second career as a landscaper until age 87.
Always cheerful and outgoing, Tak made friends wherever he went, entertaining people with stories. He served as president of the local chapter of the JACL, commander of VFW Post 1629, bowled in the Nisei Bowling League for over 20 years, and coached his son's Little League team. An avid hunter and fisherman, Tak loved the outdoors, going dove hunting in Argentina and fishing in the Monterey Bay with buddies.
Most of all, Tak was dedicated to his family, and we are lucky to have had him in our lives. He leaves behind devoted wife, Margaret, son, Eric (Cyndy), grandchildren, Ryan and Aubrey, and siblings, Shig Yokota and Miyo Oka. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 2 PM at the Monterey Peninsula Buddhist Temple, 1155 Noche Buena St., Seaside, CA.
