Thomas joined the Army in September 1960 completing basic training at Ft. Knox and AIT as truck driver at Ft. Dix. He served as a Field Artillary Surveyor for corporal missile in Vicenza, Italy for two years before being honorably discharged in 1963.
After rejoining the Army in 1974, Thomas served in mechanized infantry at Ft. Benning, Georgia for two years. He next went to Korea serving on the DMZ and served in Wildflecken, Germany. Thomas was then stationed at Ft. Jackson for seven years working with soldiers in basic training. He served one more tour in Korea before returning for his final tour at Ft. Ord. He served as the NCOIC of the Mout Site (Combat in Cities) before being honorably discharged in June 1991.
Thomas is survived by his wife Yong, of Marina; his children, Tracy, Michele, Tammy, Elaine, Liana, Misti and Alex; his siblings, Dale, Michael and Margaret and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place at The Paul Mortuary Chapel on Saturday, February 22 at 12:00 Noon. Burial with military honors will be at San Joaquin National Cemetery on Tuesday, February 25 at 9:00 AM.
