Born on October 9, 1940 in Paducah, Ky, to Blanche and David Fine, Allan graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School, the University of Michigan and the University of Louisville Law School. After graduation, he worked in a private law office, before joining M. Fine & Sons, his family’s clothing manufacturing business. He worked alongside his brother, Martin L. Fine, and cousin, Stephen Fine, and led the growth of the business for over three decades. While he was proud of his business success, what made him happiest was talking to the company’s employees, whether on the factory floor or in the halls of the corporate offices.
Allan was a people person who made friends everywhere he went. Known affectionately as Big Al, Poppy, Dad-eee and Dad — but never late for dinner — Allan was beloved for his sense of humor and his ability to put everyone he met instantly at ease.
A true family man whose face lit up every time he saw his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchild, Allan had many passions in life —trains, the University of Michigan football, golf, horse racing, the St. Louis Cardinals, history, classical music, martinis, talking politics and trivia.
Allan’s Jewish faith was very important to him, as was giving back to the community. After he retired and moved to Palm Beach Gardens, he became a substitute teacher and also served as president of his neighborhood housing association.
Allan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bonnye; his children Margi, Jenny and Patti; his sons-in law Daniel Bley, Julian Locke and David Jewell; his grandchildren Zach, Gabrielle, Sydney, Ryan, Danny, Ally, Andi and Pippa, and his great granddaughter, Romy.
A memorial service will be held at Temple Judea in Palm Beach Gardens on Friday July 17 at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trustbridge Hospice or bloodcancerunited.org.
