Anne left us peacefully on June 10, 2023, at her home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The loving mother and friend will be missed by all whose hearts she touched.
Anne was the only child of Sarah and Cyril Pierce born on June 5, 1931, in Boston. Her father passed when she was only three and she grew up in a house filled with her aunts, uncle and cousins, perhaps the source of her deep love of family.
A Bostonian through and through, her marriage to Melvin Tanen took her life on an unexpected course when they decided to become home builders in Florida. Anne became an astute businessperson, managing the administrative side. At Tanen Properties, along with her in-laws, Nate and Barbara Tanen, they built houses up and down the east coast of Florida. For over 30 years, they never wavered from their mission to provide quality affordable housing.
Also, during that time, Anne devoted herself to raising her children and community work. Jewish causes were dear to her, and she was on the board of her synagogue. When she entered the senior phase of her life, she developed an insatiable love of bridge and her bridge partners, and began working on protections and rights for people living in senior continuing care communities.
Her spark for life and enthusiasm will be missed.
Anne is survived by her three daughters, Jerri Shaer, Sandy Tanen, and Laurie Tanen; seven grandchildren, Stephanie VanHook, Dan Shaer, Max Shaer, Miriam Fuchs, Shoshana Jarvis, Noah Jarvis, and Eli Jarvis; and five great grandchildren, Nora VanHook, Sloane VanHook, Theo Shaer, Madison Shaer, and Conor Shaer.
Anne’s funeral will be held at Star of David Funeral Home on June 13, 2023, at 12:00
