Barnett Berkowitz

In loving memory of Barnett "Barney" Berkowitz, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on August 23, 2026. Born on August 29, 1935, in the Bronx, New York, Barney lived a life that was as vibrant and full as his larger-than-life personality.

The son of Harold and Betty Berkowitz, Barney was raised with his siblings, Sheldon and Ethel. He graduated from William Howard Taft High School in the Bronx, a place where his journey of touching lives began. Soon after, he served his country with honor in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean War, rising to the rank of Specialist 3rd Class.

Barney's life was marked by both personal and professional success. He first married Joan Frank in New York, and together they moved to Florida in 1972, lovingly raising two children until Joan's untimely passing in 1979. In the face of loss, Barney found love again with Dorothy, whom he married on December 27, 1980. For over 46 years, they built a beautiful, blended family, rich with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Professionally, Barney was a titan in the Senior Health Insurance Industry, dedicating over 45 years to helping seniors understand and access Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage plans, and long-term care policies. His passion for educating others was evident in his weekly radio show and seminars, where his knowledge and enthusiasm helped countless individuals.

Beyond his career, Barney was a man of many interests. Photography was a lifelong passion, and he was rarely seen without his camera, always seeking the next "Front Cover" shot. His love for travel took him to the world's most iconic destinations, with Las Vegas and the Bahamas being favorites for his love of gambling and craps. A football enthusiast, Barney's greeting during the season was often, "Who do you like?" rather than the customary hello. His collection of over 500 replica watches was a testament to his diverse interests.

Barney's presence was magnetic, his energy boundless, and his sense of style impeccable. He was the life of every party, known for his humor and ability to make everyone feel valued and welcomed. His kindness, generosity, and zest for life left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Barney is lovingly remembered by his wife, Dorothy Berkowitz; children, Brian Berkowitz (Lynn), Jody Berkowitz, David Simon (Ellen), and Ken Huntman (Joni); grandchildren, Jonathan Berkowitz (Shari), Brooke Rappa (Ricky), Heather Barnett, Morgan Huntman, Justin Huntman, Derek Doe, Brandon Poltronieri, and Jared Poltronieri; and great-grandchildren, Kingsley, Jet, Lilly, Roman, Joey, and Logan. He is also survived by his sister, Ethel Rogers. He joins in peace his parents, Harold and Betty, brother Sheldon, niece Lori, first wife Joan, daughter Ellen Simon and Ashleigh Simon.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Parkside Tamarac Memory Care Facility and VITAS Hospice for their compassionate care. Barney's legacy of love and laughter will forever remain in our hearts.

A service to celebrate Barney's life will be held on August 30, 2026, at 9:30 AM at IJ Morris at Star of David Cemetery of the Palm Beaches, 9321 Memorial Park Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33412.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Barney's memory may be made to the Tunnel To Towers Foundation. "Forever in our Hearts."
