Doris was born on January 1, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to Katie and Abraham Kushinsky. She attended Brooklyn College and pursued a career as an elementary school teacher. Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and exemplary teacher.
Doris was warm and kind and was beloved by everyone. She remained close to her childhood girlfriends throughout their lives, and she continued to foster new and enduring friendships all her life. She loved to travel, and upon retirement she and her husband Sam traveled extensively (Europe, Australia, India, Thailand, Africa…). She was super-smart which was evident in all aspects of her life, including the high grades her son received on “their” elementary school book reports. She was devoted to her family, and each of her children would think of themselves as her favorite child. She had a profound influence on all those lucky enough to be in her life, including her students and her nieces and nephews. She brought out the best in everyone.
Doris is survived by her children Robert Sloan, Richard Sloan and Jeri Montalto and her grandchildren Marshall Montalto and Allison Sloan. Doris was predeceased by her loving husband Sam and her brother Stanley Kushinsky.
