Edward Toby Feldman was a remarkable man who was easily adored by everyone who knew him. A loyal and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed. A true mensch. A joyful man with an amazing sense of humor and spirit. His family meant the world to him, and he was loved beyond measure by his wife, Barbara, son, Robert and daughter, Nancy (Michael). Being a grandfather to Mikey, Matty and Joey Paladino gave him great pride and joy.
After graduating with honors from High School in the Bronx, Edward attended Washington University in St. Louis where he earned a BS degree. After beginning to attend law school at Syracuse University, he decided to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He was a Sergeant and was awarded the privilege of serving as an honor guard at Arlington National Cemetery. After an honorable discharge, he went on to begin his career as a stockbroker and securities advisor, a career he flourished in until his retirement at the age of 61. In 1956, a blind date led this handsome young man to meet the love of his life, Barbara (Lawner). Married on May 19th, 1957, Barbara and Edward’s romance lasted for over 60 years. Together, Edward and Barbara were an amazing team and after years devoted to raising their family on Long Island, they enjoyed traveling with friends exploring the U.S., Canada and many international cruises. Upon their retirement, they moved to Wycliffe Golf & Country Club in Wellington, Florida where they continued to travel and spend time going out with friends to dinners, events and the theater. They loved the Kravis Center for the Arts, Museums and culture. Their love was apparent, always laughing together, cuddling and holding hands. A love story that was so admirable to witness.
Many people knew our dad as “The Music Man”. One of his greatest joys was music – especially classical and show tunes. Music was his way of connecting with the world and shared that love generously. Dad would spend hours crafting CD’s personalized for each recipient. He gifted these CD’s not only to close family and friends but to nearly everyone he met. To him, sharing a piece of music was sharing a piece of himself. A small act of kindness that brightened people’s lives in ways he may never have fully realized.
Dad believed in giving to others and saw it as a mitzvah. He gave generously to many charities and helped others and volunteered his time throughout the years.
The list of attributes about Edward can go on and on, from his love of gardening, playing tennis, his eloquent writing skills, his quick wit, his love of reading and his desire to make everyone feel loved and special. He was special in so many ways.
Despite living with Parkinsons and dementia for the last 8 years, his love for music and his kindness towards others never faded. Even as his own body challenged him, his heart remained as warm and as giving as ever. He taught us all that love and generosity don’t need grand gestures. They live in everyday moments. In the sharing of a song, in the thoughtfulness of just lending a caring ear when needed. He was there for everyone.
Edward’s spirit and infectious smile will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He filled our lives with love, wisdom and kindness. We will carry your song in our hearts forever. Always our “Tidy Tiger”. We love you.
A Graveside Service for Edward will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2024 10:30 AM at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S State Rd 7, Wellington, FL 33449.
