I knew Eddie as a child.. We lived in the same appartment house 112 Haven Ave. Eddie was always a funny lively child with a great fantasty. We met about two years ago on Facebook and I appreciated his polical stance and cutting comments. So long old friend. Ron Bodansky

I knew Ed since high school and we continued being buddies through High School. Ed had a wonderful sense of humor and always wanted to write for Mad Magazine. May his memory be. Blessing for his family!

I worked with Ed at theEnquirer from 1976 to 1980 and he added joy and warmth to that brilliant but wacky newsroom. The rewrite team, which included Ed, would take a complicated story with bits and pieces, often pages of random documentation and “back up” and synthesize it, homogenize it into a sparkly, gee-whiz story for mass consumption. The stories may have seemed simplistic, they were anything but. This was a high art form I would e plain throughout the rest of my career where I found the Enquirer team, especially Ed, far more talented than most I worked alongside of at three network news divisions. Ed and I keep in touch. He was always writing something. He was always funny, authentic, and fun. He leaves a big void. Condolences to the family. May his memory be a blessing.

I just read Ed's obituary and was so sorry to learn of his passing. He and my late husband Paul had a nice friendship together. My condolences to Kathy and their children. Meri Cohen

Dear Kathy, Spencer and Whitney,
My heart breaks for you :(.
Ed was one of the sweetest humans I’ve known , always looking on the bright side and trying to help others who were struggling in some way. He was a devoted husband to my dear friend Kathy . He was a loving and supportive father to his two wonderful kids.
A loyal friend to all of us. We will always miss seeing him with his Ed smile .
I pray he is at peace .

I recently shared with my grandfather Bob Smith about Ed’s passing and was asked to reach out to Ed’s family-

“Dear Kathy,
I was shocked and saddened by the news of Ed’s death. He was a good man and a good friend of mine for years. We worked together at the Enquirer for 23 years. I always thought he would outlive me. I wrote a funny little piece about you and Ed in my book:

“I also found a song I'd written about Ed, who was Jewish, was overweight
at the time and never drove regularly until he moved to Florida to join the Enquirer. The song is set to the old "Davy Crockett" anthem, which started like this:

Born on a mountaintop in Tennessee
Greenest state in the land of the free
Raised in the woods so he knew every tree Killed him a b'ar when he was only three
Davy, Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier!

My song about Ed started like this:

Born in a tenement in old New York
Ate a lot of pizza but he wouldn't eat pork Raised in the city so he knew a lot of dorks Bought him a car when he was twenty-four Eddie, Eddie Sigall, queen of the wild tabloid!

The "queen" was just a joke. Ed married a beautiful girl named Kathy and they had two children, Spencer and Whitney, so he wasn't gay. At least, I don't think he was gay.”

- Bob Smith”

I got the opportunity to speak to Ed on a few occasions, and I am forever grateful for the kindness and friendship he extended towards Pappy. Our family sends prayers and love to yours during this time of mourning.

- Lily, Bob’s granddaughter

Dear Kathy:
I was just informed via Francoise of Ed's passing. My heart breaks for you as someone who also lost a most loved one. There are no words to describe the emptiness in ones heart that can never be healed. Even after twelve years I still think of him every day.
Although I only met Ed twice, I so looked forward to his superb
postings on Facebook. After reading them, I wanted to write back
with "You Go Ed"! I could see why he was in the "literature"
business.
Kathy, I just want you to know we're thinking of you at this
very sad time.
                                                            Bea

One of the first times I visited Kathy and Ed in Florida, I spoke to Ed on the phone; he wanted to know what airplane I was flying down on. When I told him he proceeded to tell me about every time the aircraft had crashed. I was scared. But I still took the flight to Florida and visited them and came to understand that this type of interaction was very typical of Ed. And I grew to love it. He was one of a kind and one of the last great guys in the world. Deepest sympathy for your loss and for our loss to all of his family, friends and the world. Love Gloria

Kathy and I were saddened to learn of Ed's passing. He was the person who convinced us to move to Florida 39 years ago and I have never looked back. Ed wasn't just a boss, a co-worker and a friend; he was also a vital source of medical information and support at a time when our family was facing difficult health challenges.

But what I will remember most about Ed was his off-center sense of humor. In my mind, I can almost hear the laughter Ed must be getting in Heaven as he delivers his jokes and humorous observations.

One that has always stuck with me was the time that he learned we had named our daughter Chelsea -- which just happened to be the name of his dog. Ed's comment, "Naming your daughter after my dog is the height of brown-nosing."

We'll never forget you, Ed.

This past holiday season, I saw Spencer holding his dad’s hand, and it was one of the most beautiful moments I’ve witnessed. It reminded me deeply of my own relationship with my father.

Ed always welcomed me with kindness and acceptance. He made me feel like part of the family, and that is something I will carry with me always. I am truly grateful to have known him.

May the Creator welcome you home into your divine wholeness of love and kindness—because that is exactly who you were.

Incredibly sad about Ed. What a wonderful one of a kind guy. My deepest sympathies to Kathy, Spencer and Whitney.

We will miss you, Ed

Lenore and I were shocked and saddened to learn today of Ed’s passing. He was a great friend. We loved him. Our deepest condolences to Kathy, Spencer and Whitney.
