Elinor Wapner died peacefully, surrounded by family, on May 11, 2026. Elinor was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 13, 1937. She was the daughter of Ann and Herman Kaytes. She was a feisty, inquisitive, fun-loving kid who spent time in both Philly and “down-the-shore” in Atlantic City, NJ. She married Mort Wapner and together they shaped a life full of friends and family. After decades in Philadelphia, they moved to Jupiter, Florida.
Elinor loved life. She brought delight to all those around her. A competitive golfer, bridge-player, and devoted friend, she relished moments with others and cared deeply about those around her. Elinor saw life not as something to figure out or otherwise interrogate but to share and enjoy. She was very concerned about the state of the world and valued justice and fairness. She wanted the best for all.
Many of us remember Elinor’s humor. Reflecting on the world’s difficulties, she would often say, “if we can’t laugh, we’d cry.” She made so many of us laugh! Even on her deathbed she found ways of cracking a joke. She had the gift of lightening the world. So many of us have sweeter, more upbeat hearts because of her wit and sparkle.
Elinor loved her family. She and Mort were together for over 60 years. She was a devoted mother to Susan Thiele, Paul Wapner and his wife Diane Singerman, and Howard Wapner and an adoring grandmother to Jacob, Eliza, Jonah, and Zeke.
Her family wishes to thank all those in her circle who enriched her life. Thank you for your care and friendship.
