My grandmother's passing is surreal and I struggle with the thought of her no longer being in this world.
She and my grandfather(papi) have been an unshakable foundation where my mother, brother, sister, and myself sought refuge throughout our lives, beginning in the early 90's when they took us in as we moved from Colombia. 
They provided a safe haven for us to grow. They gave us unconditional love. They instilled their knowledge and made sure we understood life's expectations of being better and doing the right thing. 
She was not only creative, and artistic, for example: creating beautiful art on stained glass and adorning bottles, but she was so nuanced and intelligent. Her advice was always multi-layered and insightful, it made you decipher the lessons behind her words and often initiated a self-reflective experience that ended in personal growth. As a child, it was frustrating to try and absorb such grandeur but now as an adult, I'm so thankful to her. 
She had 7 grandchildren. My siblings and cousins are all amazing and unique people with such depth of character and heart poured right out of her philosophies. 
As we all have children, I really wish the new generation could have met and learned from her the way we did. We will have to do our best to fill her shoes and impress that ubiquitous greatness upon our kids.
We will miss her terribly. Rest in peace abuelita Esther!!
