Gilbert M. Sachs

Gilbert was born December 28,1931 in New York City to parents Pauline and Alex Sachs, joining older sister Arlene. The family lived in Greenwich Village and later moved to Washington Heights to join many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Gil graduated from George Washington High School where he played on the basketball team. After high school he was drafted into the Army and served in Korea. Upon his discharge Gil attended New York University earning a business degree. Gil worked for a liquor distributor in NYC when he met Naomi (Niki) who he married in June 1959. Eventually Gil and a partner opened their own liquor store on the Upper East Side of New York called Embassy Liquors where he worked for the next 30 years.

Gilbert was an avid golfer, a fan of the NY Giants and the NY Knicks. He grew up in the shadow of Yankee Stadium and was a fan until Niki turned him into a supporter of the Mets, but not before he imparted his Yankee fandom to his three children. Gil and Niki were long time members of Beth El Synagogue in New Rochelle, NY where they raised their family. He loved playing golf and basketball with his sons and he attended art history classes with his daughter. Gil was an active and involved father, always available for his children.

Gilbert was predeceased by his true love, wife Niki, in June 2024 after 65 years of marriage. He is survived by three children, Lisa (Richard Baum), David (Meryl) and Andrew (Vera). He and Niki had seven beloved grandchildren: Jeremy Baum (fiancee Nicole), Gabrielle Baum, Emily Sachs, Jacob Sachs, Rachel Sachs, Benjamin Sachs and Aidan Sachs. Gil is also survived by his three nephews whom he adored: Roy, Michael and Kenneth Berger and their families.

Funeral services will be held on Friday March 7, 2025 at the Star of David Funeral Home 9321 Memorial Park Rd in Palm Beach Gardens, FL at noon.
