

Gloria Malden Kaplan, 93, of North Palm Beach, FL passed away on February 6, 2024.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York on February, 17, 1930 to Jean (Schneider) and Sol Malden. Gloria attended school during the golden age of education in New York City, graduating from PS 92, Erasmus Hall high school and receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brooklyn College. Gloria spent her career as both a teacher and Assistant Principal at Wingate High School in Brooklyn.
Gloria was an accomplished woman who spent her life supporting the betterment of others. She was an untiring promoter of women’s equality in the workplace and encouraged others to expand their horizons through education, music, culture, and travel. Enjoying a long and distinguished career in education and as an independent businesswoman, she also found time to support civic causes and philanthropic organizations. She served for many years as a volunteer tax preparer in the Tax Counseling for the Elderly grant program.
Gloria served in many leadership roles, including the New York High School Assistant Principals Association, the New York Superintendent’s Consultation Committee, the NYC Council of Supervisors and Administrators, and the North Palm Beach chapter of the American Association of University Women.
Gloria had a long and loving 66-year marriage to her childhood sweetheart, Ira Kaplan. Many thought his full name was “Ira dear”. Gloria devoted herself to her family and her focus on education set her children on paths to fulfilling lives, for which they are grateful.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Jean and Sol Malden, her husband, Ira, and her sister Eileen Goldfeder. She is survived by her sister Marcia Klein, her two sons, Craig (Patti) and David (Vickie), five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
