Throughout her life, Louise blessed everyone privileged to know her with her goodness, her gentleness, her kindness and her selfless, unlimited and unconditional love. She provided a sense of balance because of her emotional calm that came from a perfect inner harmony with everything and everyone around her. And she always cared more about others than about herself. With her gentleness and infinite capacity for love she provided a sound foundation for her family and her many friends.
Louise was born in New York on December 10th 1926. She attended Adelphi College and graduated from Columbia University's Teacher's College. She was teaching in the New York City school System when she married Michael Stein on Dec. 29th 1948. Her passion for education and love of children led her to found the school at Temple Beth-el of Great Neck N.Y. One of her most memorable experiences with children was greeting one of the first plane loads of Ethiopian Jews to arrive in Israel where she took charge of the little children, making toys for them and helping them to adjust to their new surroundings.
Louise's life was dedicated to caring for others. She served on the executive committee of the Long Island Jewish Medical center where she helped new parents adjust to parenthood and return home with all the things they would need for a newborn. She delivered meals on wheels to elderly shut-ins and often brought them to her home for further socialization. Along with her husband, Mike, she helped to co-found the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and served as a trustee from its very beginning. She was awarded the "Scopus Award" from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for years of service including chairing their Palm Beach annual event and serving as guest of Honor. She chaired and/or co-chaired many other philanthropic and communal events including the ADL, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Federation, AIPAC, and others. Her life was devoted to the service and well being of others.
Louise was also an accomplished pianist, preferring classical music. She was the playing manager and captain of her college tennis team. And she was elected twice to chair the ladies golf program at the country club, not because she was the best golfer, but because she got along so well with everyone and could get maximum participation in events. Everyone loved and respected her.
Now she has gone on the make even heaven a better place, leaving Mike, a loving and distraught husband of 64 years, She is also survived by her children Linda and Martin Waldman, Robert Stein; her grandchildren Jason Waldman. Jacqueline and Steven Berlowski. Alea Stein. Sylvie Stein, her great grandchildren Madison Waldman and Tyler Berlowski, her sister Cecile Witty and her very special nephews and niece Joseph Michaels, and Leonard and Sally Michaels.
Funeral Services will be on Monday May 27th, 10 AM, at Temple Beth El, 2815 N. Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach, Florida. Burial will follow at the Star of David Cemetery.
