Michael Ivan Wein, born January 14, 1959, in Queens, New York, passed away on June 18, 2024 in Escondido, California. Michael was born to Philip (1920-2008) and Estelle (1922-2013) Wein and was the youngest child of three: older sister Abbye (1948-1984) and older brother Peter (1950-2024).
Michael came from a long line of boat enthusiasts that began years ago in New York on the family boat, “The Wee-nee”. This passion continued in California, where he spent many weekends on the waters outside of Oceanside Harbor when he had his boat. Michael was a huge animal lover- being the proudest dog dad to Sasha, Crash, Tank, and most recently to Marvin and Murphy. Michael ensured his dogs were adventure-ready by sporting a range of Rex Specs goggles and tactical vests, making them easily recognized all over town.
Michael’s love for adventure brought him hiking to places like Jackson Hole and Big Bear and, locally, on long walks with his dogs around Lake Hodges. Michael had a natural eye for photography, capturing wildlife and scenery across numerous state parks and local areas native to California. He even had a small pet photography business called Pixelated Pets. A photographer at heart, few knew that his photography career began at Barbizon in New York.
Michael’s life was spent with his dogs, his family, or out in nature. Those were the most important things to him and he made sure to prioritize them.
Michael is survived by his two sons, Douglas and Daniel Wein, and his nieces, Tracy Love-Geffen, Alexandra Wein, Rachael Wein, Alyssa Geffen, and nephew, Marc Geffen. Please honor Michael’s memory and love for animals by supporting The ASPCA.
