Richard was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Beatrice Preefer; and his twin brother, Jay Charles Preefer.
He is survived by his wife, Robbie Taylor Preefer; his daughter, Rachel (Jason) Preefer Matta; and his grandchildren, Palmer Rae Matta and Ryder Lane Matta; his sisters, Pamela (Michael) Mathe, Judy Preefer; his nieces, Margaux Mathe, Ella Preefer, and Marielle (Jesse) Brookner; his grand-niece, Evelyne Brookner.
Richard's beloved dogs Oliver, Jett, and Shelby; his cat Ritchie, are also part of his family.
A funeral service is scheduled to take place at IJ Morris at Star of David of the Palm Beaches, located at 9321 Memorial Park Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, 33412, on January 11, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
A committal service will be held at the same location on January 12, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
