June 17,1933 to January 17, 2025
On Jan 17th Shirley Fields, Wife to Al Fields, Mother to Todd Fields and Jerry Fields, Mother-in-law to Dawn Fields and Marla Fields, Sister to Sidney Lukin, Grandma Shirley, to Erika, Hailey, Jenna, Brandon and Kira, and to cousins, Aunt Shirley, passed away.
At 91, she was still avidly going to the gym and working on her physical therapy to keep her body tone and mind sharp before she passed away.
Shirley was a Renaissance Women who grew up on the lower East Side of Manhattan. Her father was a plumber who owned his own plumbing business. He was active in real estate and was a landlord. Shirley's mother, Betty, supported the plumbing business by keeping the books, but also was a bit of a seamstress.
Shirley met her husband Al in the mid 1950’s while playing volleyball at a resort in the Pocono’s. Al was living in Philadelphia at the time. Their love for each other was fundamental to who they later would become. He would buy her flowers on their anniversary and always found a sentimental card to go with it. In their lifetime together, they would always go out together every Saturday night without exception. After getting married, Shirley was able to get her art degree from the esteemed Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia where she studied sculpture. They settled in a small town outside Philadelphia called, Plymouth Meeting and raised 2 boys, Todd and Jerry, and were always active.
They would come to travel the world together and share their love of golf and tennis. By today’s standards she was an advanced 4.0 tennis player. Many of their friends over the years morphed out of their interest in sports and the people they met in those circles.
Shirley always had time for calls with family on Sundays and was a great conversationalist. She could talk about politics and current events or gardening and cooking and anything in between.
Shirley continued to practice her art throughout her life, and experimented with new mediums including glass art, ceramics and jewelry. She loved her family deeply, and was mourning the loss of her husband of 65 years at the time of her passing. We are thankful she passed away without suffering with prolonged and painful health problems, but she will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
