Shirley Becker Hahn, a first generation American, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on April 7, 1937. As a child of immigrants, she learned the value of hard work when in addition to her studies, she often helped her parents at their neighborhood grocery store. Shirley attended North High School and earned a teaching degree from the University of Minnesota.
It was in Minneapolis where she met Irwin Hahn, her husband of over 60 years. The couple were married in 1961 and have three children, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
In 1974, she and Irwin moved to Akron, Ohio, where she was active with the Women’s Auxiliary of the Jewish Community Center and sisterhood of Beth El Synagogue.
Shirley and Irwin enjoyed travelling together and visited countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. She also enjoyed playing tennis, golf and Mah Jong with many lifelong friends she met in Minneapolis, Akron, and later Palm Beach Gardens, FL, where she resided for over 31 years.
Although very modest, Shirley’s youthful looks, bright smile and tremendous sense of style could light up a room. Her friends enjoyed conversations on a wide range of topics. Shirley was an avid follower of news, the arts and current events.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Authur and Bertha Becker and her husband Irwin Hahn. She is survived by her children, Raleigh Hahn, Michelle Rabinovich (Michael), and Steven Hahn (Danielle DeSwert Hahn) and her grandchildren Bari Rabinovich, Andrew Rabinovich (Rachel), Alex Rabinovich, Cara Hahn, and great granddaughter Noa Rabinovich.
