Alfred May "Bill" Grimmett

Alfred M. (Bill) Grimmett, World War II veteran, retired Shell Oil Refinery employee and long-time Pasadena resident, died unexpectedly at his home here Saturday. He was 87.He entered the Navy immediately after graduating from Barry (Texas) High School, where he was active in basketball and club and school functions. Mr. Grimmett was a combat veteran of World War II, serving aboard the US Navy Carrier FDR. He remained in the Naval Reserve for several years after the war. Following his military service, the native of Navarro County enrolled in Texas A & M University. Following college, he began his long-time service with the Shell Oil plant in Pasadena.After retirement, he was active in Pasadena city government and served as a Civil Service Commissioner for the Pasadena Police Department for several years. He also served 2 terms as a Harris County Grand Jury member.Mr. Grimmett was born Aug. 6, 1926, on a farm near Barry in Navarro County to the late James Davis (Jim) and Grace Hux Grimmett. He married his first wife, Pauline, in 1954. She died following a massive heart attack in 1962. Mr. Grimmett remarried in 1966 to the late Josephine Atkinson Grimmett, who died in 2003.He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene D. Grimmett, Salem, Ky.; James W. (Jimmy) Grimmett and Henry A. Grimmett, both of San Antonio and one sister, Mrs. Helen Sanders, also of San Antonio. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Letha Tanner, of San Antonio, and one brother, Richard C. Grimmett, of Austin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
