After a five-year battle with Alzheimer’s, Alton Gilbert Halferty, 83, of Pearland went to meet his Savior on Thursday December 6, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donnis, his daughters and sons-in-law: Cindy and Keith Wells, Carole and Jim Coward, Lynda and Tim O'Brien, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Known as Bert by friends and family, he was born in Elma, Washington and moved to Texas when he enlisted in the Air Force. He served during the Korean war between 1949 and 1951, returning to Austin, Texas where he met and later married Donnis Elaine Griswold. Together they raised a family in South Houston, Texas, were members of First Baptist Church and owned Bert's Machine Shop. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and served his community with honor and integrity.
Bert’s service was held on Saturday, December 8th at Fellowship Bible Church in Pearland, Texas and laid to rest at Grand View Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Pasadena, Texas.
Our family will always cherish the years with him, and will miss him greatly.
