Ancil David Gray was born on June 25, 1940 in Keystone, Oklahoma. He was the son of Ancil T. Gray and Wilma Peterman Gray. David was raised and received his education in the Cleveland area attending school first at Rigsby One-room School then Cleveland High School. David met Rebecca Reeves at a convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1971. They married on September 4, 1971 in South Houston, Tx. Rebecca was a widow with 3 children and he took on the role of husband and dad.
David was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1969 and was a very active member of the Freeway Manor Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in South Houston, Tx. He served there for many years as an elder where he loved telling others about Jehovah and his son Jesus in the door to door ministry. He also very much enjoyed caring for the members of the congregation.
David was a carpenter by trade and was well known for his cabinet and trim work. Many times he was able to use his skill to volunteer in the building and remodeling of Kingdom Halls.
He also enjoyed fishing with his kids when they would all go camping each year and liked floating the river in New Braunfels and vacationing in different places each summer with the family. He loved his two dogs, Buddy and Bella.
David passed away on June 20, 2020 at the Colonial Oaks Memory Care Center at the age of 79 years.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Rebecca Ann Gray of Pasadena, Tx; Stepson Richard Birdell Reeves and wife Sheila Reeves of League City, Tx; Stepson Daniel Dale Reeves and wife Tara Reeves of Pearland, Tx; Stepdaughter Jennifer Darlene Barber and husband Jason Barber of League City, Tx.
Grandchildren, Dale Wayne Lester; David Lee Lester; Richard Nathan Reeves; Jonathan Edward Reeves; Morgan Elizabeth Barber-Collins; Meagan Barber-Garib; Natalia Elise Reeves; Jason Cameron Barber and Brittany Reeves, along with 2 Great Grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Gray Garcia.
