Ancil David Gray

June 25, 1940June 20, 2020

Ancil David Gray was born on June 25, 1940 in Keystone, Oklahoma. He was the son of Ancil T. Gray and Wilma Peterman Gray. David was raised and received his education in the Cleveland area attending school first at Rigsby One-room School then Cleveland High School. David met Rebecca Reeves at a convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1971. They married on September 4, 1971 in South Houston, Tx. Rebecca was a widow with 3 children and he took on the role of husband and dad.

David was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1969 and was a very active member of the Freeway Manor Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in South Houston, Tx. He served there for many years as an elder where he loved telling others about Jehovah and his son Jesus in the door to door ministry. He also very much enjoyed caring for the members of the congregation.

David was a carpenter by trade and was well known for his cabinet and trim work. Many times he was able to use his skill to volunteer in the building and remodeling of Kingdom Halls.

He also enjoyed fishing with his kids when they would all go camping each year and liked floating the river in New Braunfels and vacationing in different places each summer with the family. He loved his two dogs, Buddy and Bella.

David passed away on June 20, 2020 at the Colonial Oaks Memory Care Center at the age of 79 years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Rebecca Ann Gray of Pasadena, Tx; Stepson Richard Birdell Reeves and wife Sheila Reeves of League City, Tx; Stepson Daniel Dale Reeves and wife Tara Reeves of Pearland, Tx; Stepdaughter Jennifer Darlene Barber and husband Jason Barber of League City, Tx. Grandchildren, Dale Wayne Lester; David Lee Lester; Richard Nathan Reeves; Jonathan Edward Reeves; Morgan Elizabeth Barber-Collins; Meagan Barber-Garib; Natalia Elise Reeves; Jason Cameron Barber and Brittany Reeves, along with 2 Great Grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Gray Garcia.

David’s family wishes to thank every one of you for your support through this difficult time.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. My prayers and thoughts are with you all. Losing someone you love is never easy, but during this time of Covid, when giving someone a real hug cannot be done, makes the hurt more acute. May Jehovah, the God of all comfort, hug you & help you through this difficult time.

I remember as kids coming over to your house a lot , when you all lived across from the Freeway Manor Kingdom Hall . So I really can't think of our old Hall without thinking of Becky, David, Richard, Danny, Jennifer . It was always good to see you all when you would come visit our parents in Nacogdoches . My wife and I are so sorry for your loss . Be assured that you are in our prayers , we are thinking of you .

Ed & I will miss David so very much. We always had a good time when we got together to share a meal & watch a movie. Looking forward to the New System & the resurrection of all our loved ones. We had the pleasure of enjoying his carpentry work in our home & the time we spent talking while he did the work. So many good memories, too many to recount. Always enjoyed having Congregation Book Study in the Grey home. Until we meet again....
