Arthur Ray West

Born on January 19, 1953, Ray lived a life defined by faith, family, patriotism, and service. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army and carried the values of honor, integrity, and dedication throughout his life.

Ray was a respected member of the Masonic Lodge. He took great pride in his heritage, his community, and the lifelong friendships he cultivated through his involvement and service to others. He was also a faithful member of South Main Baptist Church for many years, where he worshipped, served, and strengthened his relationship with Christ alongside his church family.

Most importantly, Ray was a man of deep and unwavering faith who shared a strong relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His faith guided his decisions, shaped his character, and sustained him through life's joys and challenges. As a longtime member of South Main Baptist Church, Ray's life reflected his commitment to God, his family, and serving others.

Ray and his beloved wife, Ann, shared 47 wonderful years of marriage built on faith, love, sacrifice, and commitment. Together, they opened not only their home but also their hearts to children in need. Over the years, they lovingly cared for more than 50 foster children and ultimately adopted four children, creating a family bound together by love, grace, and unwavering dedication. Their selfless service changed countless lives and stands as one of Ray's greatest legacies.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Lee West and Dorothy West; his daughter, Mechelle West; and his brothers, Robert "Bobby" West and Gary West.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Ann West; his children, Heather Westerfelhaus, Jody James and husband Travis James, Bradley West and wife Samantha West, Adam Dunlap and wife Christina Dunlap, Bert West, Brendan West, Beckie West, and Dyllon Ashby. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry West and wife Joanna West, and Kenneth West and wife Ann West; his sister, Brenda Basham; his sister-in-law, Cathie West, wife of the late Robert "Bobby" West; his sister-in-law, Peggy West, wife of the late Gary West; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ray was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to 6 great-grandchildren, with 2 more great-grandchildren on the way. His family was the center of his world, and he found his greatest joy in watching future generations grow and thrive.

Those who knew Ray will remember him for his strength, wisdom, loyalty, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. He was also well known for his sense of humor and the countless jokes he shared with friends, family, and anyone lucky enough to spend time with him. His ability to make people laugh and feel welcome was one of his greatest gifts. Whether sharing stories, telling a joke, offering guidance, lending a helping hand, or opening his home to those in need, Ray lived a life of purpose and compassion.

Ray leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, character, and devotion that will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, his loved ones find comfort knowing he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior.
