Barbara Pauline Stelly

Barbara Roy Stelly, a vibrant spirit with a zest for life, passed away peacefully on December 15th, 2024, at her beloved "grandma cottage." Born Barbara Pauline Sykes on October 2, 1948, in Beaumont, Texas, she was the second daughter of six children to Murl and Charles Sykes.

Barbara lived life with a unique flair, always ready with advice (whether you asked for it or not!). She was a talented dancer, even holding the title of "best jitterbugger" in Lafayette for two years. A single mother in an era when it was less common, she instilled in her daughters the importance of doing the right thing, even when it was tough. Barbara’s unwavering determination to provide a better life for her family taught her girls the value of hard work and perseverance.

A true East Texas girl at heart, she loved to share stories and always had a helping hand for those in need. She possessed a kind soul and a generous spirit that will be deeply missed. Her "grandma cottage" reflected her unique style, complete with her dream pink bathroom and a magenta front door (much to her daughter's amusement!).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Murl and Charles Sykes, and siblings Charles Jr. (Sonny), Thomas (Bubba), Paul (Pepper), and Evelyn. She is survived by her daughters: Leisa Jones (Will) and her children Cameron, Tristan (Danielle), and Elise (Wesley); Kimberly Foret (Joey) and her children Allison, Tiffany, and Mya; and Aimee Newsom and her children Eva and Benett. She also leaves behind her brother Joseph Sykes, ex-husband Michael Roy, Niece Cheryl Dawsen ( Jill), and Nephew Jeremy Sykes ( Holly)-- with children, Skyler, Carter, Walker, and two cherished great-grandchildren: Jordan and Jude.

While we will miss “Barbara Jean” dearly, we find comfort in knowing angels now surround her. We thank the heavens for the 76 wonderful years we shared with her.
