Ben was born in Donna, Texas on February 13, 1943. He graduated from Gregory Portland High School where he was a member of the choir, Math Club and National Honor Society. Ben attended Del Mar College before joining the Army in 1963. He spent a year training in New Jersey, 3 years in Helmstedt, Germany and 18 months in Vietnam. After completing his duty with the U.S. Army, Ben went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone until he retired in 1989 from AT&T (formerly Southwestern Bell).
Ben is survived by his loving spouse, Gloria Ramirez Alvarado; his sons, Michael (Faye) Alvarado and Mario (Amy) Alvarado; his son-in-law, Richard Loeser; his brothers, Guadalupe, Graciel, Alejandro and Ernest Alvarado; as well as his sisters, Sylvia Alvarado, Dora Alvarado, Neri Jefferson and Oralia Rodriguez.
He is preceded in death by his loving daughter, Andrea Loeser; as well as his sisters, Irene Vargas and Narcie Delgado.
Ben leaves behind a legacy carried on by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews.
Ben lived a life with purpose, touching the lives of many through their work and his involvement as a Boy Scout leader, soccer coach and spending fun times with family through camping, going to the beach and fishing. He was a parishioner of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church where he served as an usher and a faithful adorer of the Adoration Chapel. Ben was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and active with the Knights of Columbus Council 10576.
His story does not end here, for his love and memories will live in in all of us and although Ben's chapter on earth has closed, his spirit will continue to inspire.
