Bettie was a member of the Southern Baptist faith, however in her final two years she attended Hill Country Nazarene Church in Cedar Park, TX. Bettie was married to Joe Junior Queen on April 15, 1945. During the early years of their marriage Bettie and Joe owned a small grocery store in Oakhurst, TX. In the 1950’s Bettie and Joe completed their family by adopting one year old Becky. Bettie attended beauty school in the 1960’s and Joe converted their single garage at their Pasadena home into a pink beauty shop, which she christened “Queen’s Beauty Nook”.
After Joe lost his battle with cancer at the age of 41, Bettie returned to college. She attended San Jacinto Jr. College then went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston. Bettie joined the Houston Independent School District as a teacher’s aide then soon became an elementary school teacher. She retired in 1981 to care for her elderly mother in Oakhurst.
Bettie was a social butterfly. Always up for a rousing game of cards, dominoes, or a cut throat game of Skipbo. She enjoyed the weekly game day at the local senior center. Bettie loved telling stories and always captured the attention of everyone wherever she went. She never knew a stranger. Bettie held her family dear to heart.
